Abstract
ABSTRACT
THE EFFECT OF LIFESTYLE WITH THE EVENT OF HYPERTENSION IN STREET PATIENTS IN IMELDA HOSPITAL MEDAN

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease with a high prevalence and risk of death in developed and developing countries. Hypertension is a state of increased blood pressure that will give further symptoms to a target organ such as stroke and coronary heart disease. Data from Imelda Hospital in August 2018 revealed that 127 hypertensive patients visited each month. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lifestyle on the incidence of hypertension in outpatients at Imelda Hospital in Medan.
This type of research is an analytical research (explanatory research) with a retrospective approach. The population in this study were all outpatient patients at the Imelda Hospital in Medan in August 2018, 280 people. The sampling technique used purposive sampling as many as 40 respondents. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis.
The results of the study with the chi square test found that the majority of dietary variables were enough as many as 18 people (45.0%) with a value of p = 0.001 <0.05, the majority of moderate physical activity was 17 people (42.5%) with a value p = 0.008 0.05 and smoking the majority of respondents smoke by 23 people (57.5%) with a value of p = 0,000 <0.05. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of diet, physical activity and the effect of smoking on the incidence of hypertension in hypertensive patients at Medan Imelda Hospital in 2018.
It is recommended that hospital staff are advised to carry out counseling activities to the public regarding hypertension and food ingredients that are at risk of causing hypertension, namely foods high in fat and sodium such as fried foods, salted fish, biscuits and so on.
