Abstract
Breastmilk is a perfect substance for the growth of a baby and accelerates the development of baby's body weight. The less maximal of exclusive breastfeeding is caused by early provision of breastmilk complementary food. In Indonesia the percentage of exclusively breastfed babies is only 15.3%, which means that around 84.7% have been given complementary foods. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors of knowledge, family support, and breastmilk production related to the provision of breastmilk complementary food for infants aged 0-6 months at Desa Klambir Lima Kampung, Hamparan Perak Sub District, Deli Serdang District in 2018.
The design of this study is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The populations in this study were all mothers who had 0-6 months babies at Desa Klambir Lima Kampung. The sampling using random sampling technique with a total sample of 62 people and the measuring instrument used was a questionnaire. The data analysis included univariate and bivariate using chi-square test.
The statistical test results showed that there was a relationship between maternal knowledge (p-value = 0.015), maternal family support (p-value = 0.007) and breast milk production (p-value = 0.011) with the provision of breastmilk complementary food in infants aged 0-6 months.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between knowledge factors, family support, and breastmilk production at Desa Klambir Lima Kampung, Hamparan Perak Sub District, Deli Serdang District in 2018. It is expected that respondents will further increase their knowledge and seek information about breastmilk complementary food and provide it according to the age of the baby.
