Abstract

Breastmilk is the first food, the main and best for babies that are natural and contain various nutrients that are needed for baby growth and development. Based on the World Health Organization (WHO) exclusive breastfeeding coverage throughout the study is around 36%. Based on a preliminary survey of 10 postpartum mothers there were 7 mothers who were not fluent in breastfeeding and 3 mothers were smoothly breastfed. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between breast care history during pregnancy and the smoothness of breastmilk expenditure during postpartum at Dina maternity home Medan in 2018.
This type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach, the population in this study were all postpartum mothers on 3-7 days, with a total population sampling technique that as many as 35 respondents throughout the population were sampled.
The results of the study, the number of breast care history was 17 respondents (48.6%), and those who did not have breast care were 18 respondents (51.4%). The smooth running of ASI expenditure was 22 respondents (62.9%), and non-smooth breastfeeding was 13 respondents (37.1%). (p-value = 0.031 <0.005%), that is there is a relationship with a history of breast care during pregnancy with the smooth expenditure of breast milk during childbirth in the Dina Medan Maternity Home in 2018.
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a significant relationship between the histories of breast care during pregnancy with the smooth expenditure of breast milk at Dina Maternity Home Medan in 2018. It is expected that health workers can provide information about breast care with the smooth expenditure of breast milk.
