Abstract
Menstruation is discharge from the vagina periodically during reproductive age, menstruation generally occurs at the age of 12-13 years, Counseling is a non-formal educational activity aimed at changing behavior (knowledge, attitudes, and skills) of humans. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of counseling on the knowledge of teenage girls about menstruation in class VII junior high school of Sultan Iskandar Muda Foundation Medan Sunggal in 2018.
This study used a quasi-experimental design in the form of one group pretest-posttest. The population of this research is all female teenagers who have not experienced menstruation as many as 32 respondents. The sample in this study used a total population of 32 respondents. By using the data analysis of the Wilcoxon signed ranks test.
Based on the results of a study of 32 respondents before being educated with good knowledge amounted 7 (21.9%) respondents, enough knowledge amounted 14 (43.8%), less knowledge amounted 11 (34.4%). After conducting counseling the result showed that good knowledge was 12 (37.5%) respondents, enough knowledge was 18 (56.3%) respondents; less knowledge was 2 (6.3%) respondents. The results of the statistical test with Wilcoxon signed ranks test used the computerization application obtained asymp.sig values (2-tailed) is 0,000 then p (0,000) a = <0.05 which means Ha is accepted.
This research can be concluded that there is an influence of counseling on the knowledge of teenage girls about menstruation in the class VII Senior High school of Sultan Iskandar Muda Foundation Medan Sunggal in 2018. It is expected that the respondent can increase his knowledge about menstruation so as not to cause impotence when facing menstruation later.
