Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a type of work-related disease caused by unnatural hand or wrist position which causes the median nerve to be pressed on the wrist which in turn can cause parasthesia, numbness and muscle weakness in the hand. At work there are some workers who work in clumsy postures which result in risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).
This study aims to determine the relationship between clumsy posture and the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome in computer users at the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra Province. This type of research used analytical survey research method with cross sectional. The research design in this study that is non-structural computer user workers at the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra Province and the sample used is the entire population of as many as 74 workers of non-structural computer users in the Central Board Statistics of North Sumatra Province. Data were analyzed used univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi-square test.
Based on the results of the study, workers of non-structural computer users who are at risk of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) are as many as 37 people (50%). Computer workers who work with clumsy postures were 38 people (51.4%). In this study, variable odd posture was found to have a significant relationship with the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) in non-structural computer users at the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra Province in 2018 with p-value = .000 < .05.
It is recommended to the company to create an OSH promotion program related to wrist exercises that need to be done before starting work or on the sidelines of work.
