Abstract
The umbilical cord or umbilical cord is a part of life. After the baby is born, there is no longer the umbilical cord to be cut and tied or pinched. The rest of the umbilical cord that is still attached to the baby's skin that cannot be treated. Infection is one of the causes of birth of newborns, tetanus and infection are the main causes of infant mortality. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship of educational information communication (KIE) with the knowledge and attitudes of mothers about cord care.
This type of research is quasi-experimental research (Quasi Eskperimen) with one pretest and post test design group. The population in this study were all mothers in Arafah 3 room at RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh in 2018. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 30 respondents. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire using univariate and bivariate data analysis with the peired t-test.
Based on the paired T-test test, the highest average of knowledge before getting the IEC was 14.70 and afterwards KIE 19.10 with the t value of -8.254, the results of the statistical test obtained p = 0.000 (<0.05). While the results of attitudes before getting KIE 43.40 and after getting KIE 63.87 with a t value of -9.875, the results of statistical tests obtained p value = 0.000 (<0.05).
Guidance with Postpartum Mother's Knowledge and Attitudes About Cord Care. It is expected that the people in Arafah Room 3, Dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital, Banda Aceh, can apply the IEC regarding umbilical cord care that has provided and performed umbilical cord care and maintained cleanliness properly and correctly.
