Abstract
Breast care is an act to treat the breast, especially during the puerperium to facilitate breast milk. The impact of not performing breast care can result in unexpected breastfeeding. Based on RSU Sundari Medan, breast care was implementate on June-October 2017 as many as 162 people. The purpose of this research is to know the relationship of knowledge and the attitude of postpartum maternity about breast care with the smoothness of breast milk.
This study was done by using analytical survey design with cross sectional approach. The population of this study were all postpartum of 61 people and the sample used were all postpartum mother of day 3 today 4 at RSU Sundari Medan amount 30 responden. The data collection techniques were primary, secondary, and tertiary. The data analysis was done by using univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi Square test statistic.
The result showed that the majority of respondents were less knowledgeable (43,3%) negative attitude (53,3%), and the unsmoothness breast milk (60%). The result of statistical test showed that the knowledge variable has p value of 0.037 and attitude variable has p value 0,000.
Based on the data above, it can be concluded there is a relationship of knowledge and attitude with the smoothness of breast milk at RSU Sundari Medan in 2017. It is suggested to the health workers to improve the health service as specially about breast health during childbirth, by increasing the health care about breast care, then there will be no problem of brastfeeding as a result of disturbances in the mother’s breast during childbirth.
