Abstract
Cancer is a disease with a high prevalence in the world. The top five cancers in the world are lung cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, gastric cancer, and liver cancer. A survey conducted by WHO (World Health Organizaiton) states that 8-9 percent of women develop breast cancer. In Indonesia in 2014 it was found that breast cancer ranks first in the high prevalence among the five other cancers. One factor in the high occurrence rate is the lack of breast cancer education since adolescents detect and treat breast cancer early. Based on a preliminary survey conducted on 10 female adolescent in class XI at SMA Negeri 1 Sunggal, there were only 2 female adolescent who knew about breast cancer and BSE behavior.
The research design used was an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The population was all female adolescent in class XI at SMA Negeri 1 Sunggal as many as 185 and used purposive sampling techniques and the samples were 64 people.
The results showed that the knowledge of female adolescent about breast cancer was less as many as 30 respondents (46.9%), less knowledge of BSE as many as 28 respondents (40.7%), negative BSE attitude 37 respondents (57.8%) and respondents who did not do 37 BSE (57.8%). From the results of the chi-square test analysis showed that the value of p = 0,000 <value of α (0,05).
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a Knowledge Relationship about Breast Cancer with BSE Behavior in Class XI female adolescent in SMA Negeri 1Sunggal in 2018. Health workers are expected to be more detailed in providing explanations in an effort to increase breast cancer and BSE behavior knowledge in female adolescent.
