Abstract
Cigarette is a slinder of paper measuring 70 to 120 mm (varies) with a diameter of about 10 mm. This difference is based on whether or not there is a filter for cigarette packaging materials, and raw materials or cigarette contents. Cigarettes can be divided into several types. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health counseling on the level of knowledge and attitudes of young men in the prevention of the dangers of smoking in North Sumatra 1 Gunungsitoli Vocational High School in 2018.
This research is a quasi-experimental method (Quast Experiment) the approach used in this study is a comparison design of control and iteration groups (One Group Post Test Design). This sampling method uses the Slovin formula as many as 57 respondents. Data analysis techniques were carried out in univariate and bivariate ways using the T test.
From the results of the study based on the T test get the value of the level of knowledge (p) = 0,000 <0,05, the value of the attitude T test pre p value 0,000 and post p value 0,019. Of the variables that influence the level of knowledge and attitude.
The conclusion of this study is the influence of health counseling on the level of knowledge and attitudes of young men in the prevention of the dangers of smoking. Suggestions are expected for the school to conduct health education more often to prevent the dangers of smoking, so that students understand and know about the prevention of the dangers of smoking.
