Abstract

Workload is one element that must be considered to get high work productivity. The workload of a nurse must also be in accordance with the ability of the individual nurse. Nurses' performance in accordance with the nursing care stand will ensure the high quality of nursing services to patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between workload and work stress on nurse at inpatient room of Sundari General Hospital Medan in 2018.
The design of this study used an analytical survey with Cross sectional approach. The populations in this study were 105 nurses, and the samples in this study were 83 nurses. The data collected through primary and secondary data and data analysis using chi-square test.
Based on the results of the study it was found that the distribution of the most workload in the high category as many as 62 people (74%), and low workload with moderate categories of 8 people (9%), and the distribution of high work stress with a weight category of 66 people (79%), and low job stress as many as 8 people (9%). Chi squared test results obtained value ρ = 0.033 <0.05) so that there was a relationship between workload and work stress on nurses at inpatient rooms at Sundari General Hospital Medan in 2018.
It can be concluded that the workload influences work stress on nurses of Sundari General Hospital. The higher the workload of nurses, the nurse will experience severe work stress, so that the nurses’ performance will not be optimal in handling patients. It is expected that nurses who experience heavy workloads should take a short break or relax themselves, in order to avoid work stress, so that the nurse's performance is optimal in handling patients.
