Abstract

3-month contraception is a method of contraception through injecting hormones containing 150 mg of Depo Medroxy Progesterone Acetate (DMPA) which are injected intra-musically every 3 months. Where injectable contraception has the highest frequency, it has gained more than 2.3 kilograms of body weight in the first year and then gradually increased to 7.5 kilograms during the 6 years of use. This study aims to determine the relationship between 3-month injectable contraception history and weight gain in maternal acceptor at Hanna Kasih Clinic Medan in 2018.
The research design was an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The populations in this study were 128 of 3 month injectable contraception acceptors. The samples in this study were 20 respondents with accidental sampling technique.
Based on the results of statistical tests at 95% confidence level with α = 0.05 obtained p = 0.018. then p (0.018) <α (0.05). Thus, it was found that there was a significant relationship between 3-month injectable contraception history and weight gain at Hanna Kasih Clinic Medan in 2018.
The conclusion in this study shows that there is a relationship between 3 months injectable contraception history and weight gain. It is suggested to health workers to continue to improve health to 3-month injectable contraception acceptors about the various types of 3-month injectable contraceptionand the side effects that will occur.
