Abstract
Breast care is a procedure that is done both by the mother and assisted by another person, starting from the first or second day after giving birth. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge of breast care with the smoothness of breastmilk in post partum mothers at Suriani Sinaga Clinic of Medan Marelan Sub District in 2018.
The type of research used is an analytical survey using a cross sectional approach. The populations in this study were all postpartum mothers who gave birth and examined at Suriani Sinaga clinic in July-September 2018. The numbers of samples studied were 32 respondents which were taken by using total sampling technique.
Based on the results of research at Suriani Sinaga Clinic in Medan Marelan Sub District in 2018 the majority of maternal knowledge in the category of less as many as 17 respondents (53.1%) and the smoothness of breastfeeding expenditure the majority of respondents as many as 15 respondents (46.9%) There was a relationship between Breast Care Knowledge With the smoothness of breast milk in maternal Post Partum at Suriani Sinaga Clinic, Medan Marelan Sub District in 2018 with a sig-p value = 0,000.
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge about breast care and the smoothness of breastfeeding at Suriani Sinaga Clinic in Medan Marelan Sub District in 2018. It is suggested that health workers are expected to provide more counseling to maternal postpartum about breast care and the benefits of breastfeeding so that breastfeeding coverage program can be achieved as many as possible.
