Abstract

Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality of infectious diseases in the world. Data from Binjai Health Office in 2017 recorded that ARI is the largest case of the number of cases of the 10 most diseases in Binjai in 2017 totaling 8,665 cases followed by Dental Caries and other dental disorders in 4,567 cases and hypertension as many as 3,128 cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of education level with the use of antibiotics in patients with Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) at Dr. Djoelham Binjai in 2018.
The research design of this study uses analytical survey with Cross Sectional approach. The populations in this study were all ARI patients who came for treatment at the Hospital of the Throat Nose (ENT) Dr. Djoelham Binjai has an average of 78 patients per month. The sample of this study uses a total population using an accidental sampling system of 78 patients. The data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis with chi square test.
The results of the study revealed that the majority of respondents with 34 high school education (43.6%), the results of statistical tests obtained p value = 0.000 <0.05. 41 people (52.6%) were not right in using antibiotics.
The conclusion in this study shows that there is a relationship between the the level of education and the use of antibiotic drugs in ARI patients at Dr. Djoelham Binjai in 2018. It is suggested to Dr. Djoelham Binjai, through the Pharmacy Installation Officer, provided education to patients, especially regarding indications, dosages and side effects of antibiotics in order to improve the patient's knowledge of the proper use of antibiotics.
