Abstract

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) states that only 2/5 babies worldwide are given exclusive breastfeeding 2/3 for ages 12-23 months from 2010 (69%) to 2020 (66%). The coverage of babies who receive exclusive breastfeeding at East Lahewa Health Center until May 2022 reaches 10.20% which has not reached the national target (80%). This study aimed to identify the factors that affect the smooth production of breast milk at working area of East Lahewa Health Center in 2022.
This is an analytic observational design and cross sectional approach with a sample of 51 mothers. Sampling was taken randomly with systematic random sampling technique. Data was analyzed by Univariate, bivariate analysis using chi-square test and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression tests.
The results showed that the mother's age variable had a p-value (0.687), the parity variable p-value (0.904) showed that there was no effect (p>0.05). While the variable of breast care with p-value (0.000), frequency of breastfeeding p-value (0.000), knowledge p-value (0.000) and maternal nutritional intake p-value (0.000) indicated that there was an effect on the smooth production of breast milk (p <0, 05). The dominant factor affecting the smooth production of breast milk was mother’s nutritional intake with Exp (B) 10.805.
The conclusion shows that breast care, frequency of breastfeeding, knowledge and nutritional intake of mothers affect the smooth production of breast milk, while the mother's age and parity have no effect. Mother's nutritional intake 10.805 times affects the smooth production of breast milk. It is suggested for mothers to pay attention to nutritional intake, breastfeed on demand and increase knowledge.
