Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding is additional fluids and solid foods. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reviewed more than 3,000 studies showing breastfeeding for 6 months is the most optimal time period for exclusive breastfeeding, the average coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in the world is around 38%. This study aims to determine the relationship of husband's support and mothers job with exclusive breastfeeding on babies aged 6-9 months in Tanjung Mulia , Medan Deli, 2018.
The research design used was analytic survey research with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study was all breastfeeding mothers who have babies aged 6-9 months. The sampling technique used is Total Population with a sample of 45 respondents. This research was conducted in Tanjung Mulia with primary and secondary data collection techniques by distributing questionnaires. The analysis test was done by using chi-square.
The results of the study found that from 45 respondents (100%) there were 18 (40%) husbands who supported, mothers who worked as many as 17 mothers (37.8%), mothers who gave exclusive breastfeeding were 21 mothers (46.7%). The results of the Chi-Square test at 95% confidence level resulted in husband’s support in giving breasfeeding that is p value, .012 and in mother’s work in breastfeeding resulted in, p value was .006.
There is a relationship between husband's support and mother's work with exclusive breastfeeding because the support from her husband will make her more confident and able to give exclusive breastfeeding to her baby and mothers who are not working can breastfeed their babies at any time. Therefore it is recommended to health workers to be able to provide counseling about exclusive breastfeeding so that mothers can understand about the benefits of breastfeeding and provide ASI exclusively to their babies.
