Abstract

Nutritional intake in the first thousand days of life is very important for child growth and development. The results of the initial survey of 5 mothers who had babies aged 7-12 months said that breastfeeding their babies when infants were 0-6 months old, but mixed with other foods on the grounds that babies are often fussy because of hunger, breast milk does not come out after giving birth, and baby's weight does not increase if no extra food is given. The purpose of this study is to explore the reasons for mothers that did not do exclusive breastfeeding to babies.
This research method uses qualitative research with a phenomenological approach that is to try to explain or reveal the meaning of the concept or phenomenon of experience based on the awareness that occurs in several individuals. The informants in this study amounted to 6 people consisting of 3 core informants and 3 supporting informants.
The results of the study found that no exclusive breastfeeding in Desa Pangkalan Pinang was influenced by prelacteal feeding practices. Prelacteal foods were given in the form of honey, coffee water and formula milk. Prelacteal feeding was influenced by parents and according to the midwife Counseling and pregnant classes that are carried out still do not involve the husband and family so that the support given to the mother is reduced.
It is recommended for breastfeeding mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding to babies so that they can increase the intelligence and endurance of the baby and also they are not easily infected with the disease and the closeness of the mother and baby can be intertwined. For health workers, village midwives can increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage by approaching slowly to mothers, husbands and families so that it is hoped that the wrong culture of exclusive breastfeeding can be changed and collaborate with cadres through a training on exclusive breastfeeding.
