Abstract

PREFORMULATION TEST AND EVALUATION OF TABLETAVAILABLE FROM SIAM WEED LEAVES ETHANOL EXTRACT (Chromolaena odorata L.) WITH GELATIN VARIATION AS BINDER JUNIAELVIANGRAINI1501196171 Traditionalmedication is a drug that the ingredients in the form of plants, animals,minerals, liquid preparations (ginger) or mixtures of these materials whichhave been used for medication for generations and can be applied according tothe norms prevailing in the community. Siam Weed leaf is one part of the plantthat is used as a traditional medication, which is to treat diabetes, curewounds, cough, and stop bleeding. Siam weed leaves contain flavonoids. Thisstudy aims to determine the ethanol extract of Siam weed leaves (Chromolaenaodorata L.) can be formulated in tablet preparations with variations in the concentration of gelatin as a binder and to determine the preformulation testand evaluation of tablet preparations from ethanol extract of Siam weed leaves(Chromolaena odorata L.) with a variety of ingredients the binder.Theresearch method was conducted experimentally, with the extraction process usingmaceration method, the selection of maceration method was based on leaf typesamples, the solvent used was 70% ethanol. for the method of making tabletsmade using the wet granulation method and preformulation test and evaluation oftablet preparations.Thephytochemical screening results of Siam weed leaves showed the presence offlavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponins. Tablets are formulated in 3formulas with gelatin concentrations of 1%, 3% and 5%. Evaluation resultsshowed that the ethanol extract of Siam weed leaf (Chromolaena OdorataL.) Onlymet the respective requirements for the disintegration time and friability teston F1 and F2, and F3 did not meet the requirements for weight uniformity andhardness test of tablets.Theconclusion of this study is the Siam weed leaf (Chromolaena odorata L.) ethanolextract tablet was made ineligible based on the Indonesian edition ofPharmacopoeia III.
