Abstract
Red betel is one of the medicinal plants. Based on scientific research, red betel leaves have antibacterial because they contain flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins. Objective: This study aims to make liquid soap preparations as an antiseptic and determine the ability of liquid soap preparations to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Method: The type of research wad an experimental laboratory. Liquid soap formulation of red betel leaf ethanol extract with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% was tested for irritation, organoleptic, pH, high foam, and specific gravity. Tests carried out on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using the diffusion method. Resukt: The results of testing the quality of liquid soap meet the requirements according to the standards set by SNI. Observations obtained with the average inhibition zone for a concentration of 2.5% was 15.30 mm, 5% was 15.60 mm, 7.5% was 16.86 mm, positive control was 30.86 mm, while negative controls did not formed inhibition zone. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that red betel leaf extract (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav.) has inhibitory ability against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, with concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% included in strong category. It is recommended to further researchers to examine the antibacterial activity test of red betel leaf extract against other types of bacteria.
