Abstract
Nutritional intake during pregnancy affects the fulfillment of iron needs due to an increase in the mass expansion of red blood cells, so iron requirements increase and this results in the occurrence of anemia. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevention of anemia in pregnant mothers is 41.8%. Based on Regional Health Research, the occurrence of anemia is still high, there are 37.1% of pregnant women having anemia and according to the health profile of Medan in 2016 of 11,441 mothers, there are 1,074 pregnant women having anemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to the nutritional intake on anemia occurance in pregnant women at Pratama Irma Clinic Medan in 2018.
The type of the research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The data were collected by using questionnaire and examined hemoglobin levels of pregnant women by using Hyetometer. The sample of the study was all pregnant women who came to check their pregnancies as many as 43 pregnant women at Pratama Irma Clinic Medan. The data was analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis and tested by using the Chi-Square test.
The results of statistical tests using the chi-square test showed that there was a relationship of income (p = 0,000), education (p = 0,018), knowledge (p = 0,000) and sources of information (p = 0,000) with nutritional intake for occurrance of anemia at Pratama Irma Clinic Medan in 2018.
It is recommended to the health workers to further improve the quality of public health services by providing counseling and information on good nutrition during pregnancy to avoid anemia occurance.
