Abstract
Early initiation of breastfeeding affects the new born's body temperature, due to heat loss in infants Is four times greater than in adults. This acts as a life savior, early initiation of breastfeeding can also save 22 percent of babies who die before the age of one month. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of early initiation of breastfeeding to changes in body temperature in newborn infants.
This study design using the quasi-experimental approach prestest and posttest. The sampling method with accidental sampling method. Data were collected by observation, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test is computerized with a significance level of P-Sign<0.05.
The results showed that almost 90% of newborns prior to the early initiation of breastfeeding decreased body temperature and after the early initiation of breastfeeding is only 10% have a low body temperature. From the statistical test results obtained results with Z = -4.243 and P value = 0.000.
The conclusion of this study was the effect of early initiation of breastfeeding to changes in body temperatur of new born babies in theclinic Hj. Mera glorious headland downstream 2018. Judging from these results it is expected to midwives in order so provides early initiation of breastfeeding action to every newborn to prevent hypothermia.
