Abstract
Background ; According to the WHO, 8-9% of women who develop breast cancer make breast cancer the most common type of cancer in women. Every year more than 250,000 or every hour there are 28 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in Europe and approximately 175,000 or every hour there are 19 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the United States. The initial survey of 10 female students, from the interview, it was found that 8 (80%) of them did not know about what is BSE and the its purpose.While 2 (20%) already know what is BSE and its goal. Objectives; The purpose of this study is to find out whether there is an effect of Breast Self Examination with the level of knowledge on students of class X - IX IPA and IPS of SMA Mardi Lestari Medan in 2018. Method; This research is quantitative with the research design used was a method of pre-experimental design of one group pre-post test, namely a research plan involving two measurements with the same subject to a particular treatment. Before receiving treatment, the measurement was done first, then after receiving the treatment, repeated measurements were made to find out the consequences of the association. Results; Based on the results of the study of 32 respondents, the majority of respondents’ knowledge before BSE counseling was less than (87.5%) and the minority of respondents' prior knowledge was good (0%). Conclusion; The conclusion of this study shows that there is the effect of BSE on the knowledge of students about Breast Self Examination with the Level of Knowledge on the students of SMA Mardi Lestari with p-value = 0.000 (p <0.05).
