Abstract
Avocado plants (Persea americana Mill.) are one of the plants that have benefits as traditional medicine. Almost all parts of this plant have properties as a source of medicine. Based on the phytochemical results that have been carried out on avocado seedss found that it is contain of chemical compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids. Flavonoid is a flavanol group derived from benzene compounds which can be used as a basic compound of natural dyes. Therefore, the researcher wants to try to make hair dye form by using avocado seedss (Persea americana Mill.) as a natural coloring material.
The methods of this study is an experimental method. Hair dyes form formulation consisting of components including Avocado Seeds Extract (Persea americana Mill.), Pyrogalol, Carbopol, Copper (II) sulfate, Xanthan gum, aqua dest, shampoo, gray hair. Used a concentration of 8%, 10%, and 12%. The tests on the form made include absorption test, color stability test on washing, color stability test on gray hair and irritation test.
The formulation of hair dyes form using avocado seeds extract made in hair dyes can give a light brown color to gray hair with a concentration of avocado seeds extract 12%, carbopol 3%, pyrogalol 1%, copper (II) sulfate 1%, and xanthan gum 1% produced a light brown color.
It can be concluded that avocado seedss extract (Persea americana Mill.) can be used in hair dye form by producing colors from yellow to light brown. The best dyes were obtained from 12% EBA formulation consists of avocado seeds extract 12%, carbopol 3%, pyrogalol 1%, copper (II) sulfate 1%, and 1% xanthan gum which produced a light brown color, stable in washing several times and direct exposure to sunlight and does not cause irritation to the skin.
