Abstract
Medan is one of the obstacles to the low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is due to non-smooth breastmilk, which causes newborns to be susceptible to infectious diseases such as diarrhea and allergic diseases. The lack of breastfeeding is caused by a lack of support from the husband, lack of breast care, frequency of breastfeeding and parity. This study aims to determine the related factors to the smoothness of breastmilkin nursing mothers.
This study uses analytical survey design with Cross Sectional approach. The populations in this study were nursing mothers as many as 32 respondents. The sampling used the total population. Data analysis was done by univariate and bivariate using Chi-Square statistical test.
Based on the frequency of distribution of husbands’ support was (50.0%), breast care was (62.5%), frequency of breastfeeding (68.8%) and parity (43.8%). Husband's support (p = 0,001; OR = 33,000), breast care (p = 0,029; OR = 17,000), frequency of breastfeeding (p = 0,027; OR = 18,000), parity (p = 0,490; OR = 1,145), so Ho rejected and Ha accepted. It showed that there was a relationship of smoothness of breastmilk in nursing mothers at Dina Maternity Home Medan in 2018.
The conclusion of this study shows there is a relationship between husband's support, breast care, and the frequency of breastfeeding with the smoothness of breastmilk. The variable of parity has nothing to do with the smoothness of breastfeeding for nursing mothers at the Dina Maternity home Medan in 2018. It is suggested to the health workers to improve their role in providing information and motivation and increasing maternal knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding.
