Abstract
Menopause is known as the end of menstruation. Most women begin to experience menopausal symptoms at the age of 40 and peak at age 50. Preliminary survey conducted in Kelurahan Aek Simotung, South Tapanuli Disrict, from 10 postmenopausal mothers, obtained 2 mothers found out about menopause, while 8 other mothers did not know the signs of menopause symptoms can be seen from their attitudes toward behavior in the face of menopause. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers with the anxiety in facing menopause.
The design of this study is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The populations of this study were all menopausal mothers at Kelurahan Aek Simotung in 2018 totaling 102 people. The sampling used simple random sampling to 41 mothers. The data used were primary and secondary data. The instrument used was a questionnaire sheet using univariate and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test.
The results of statistical test research using Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level with α = 0.05 obtained sig-p = 0.040 <0.05. From the results of the study of the relationship of maternal knowledge with anxiety in facing menopause obtained p-value 0.018 <0.05, and the relationship of the attitude of mothers with anxiety in facing menopause obtained p-value 0.012 <0.05.
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers with the anxiety in facing menopause at Kelurahan Aek Simotung, South Tapanuli District in 2018. It is suggested to the community to be more active in seeking information from health workers and existing media to increase knowledge, especially preventing anxiety in facing menopause because it is a natural change.
