Abstract

The skin is a part of the body that protects the inside of the body from physical and mechanical disorders, heat or cold disturbances, interference with radiation or ultraviolet light and germ disorders. This triggers the need for skin protection by using cosmetics such as soap. One natural ingredient that has the potential as an antibacterial is basil leaves. The purpose of this study was to formulate the ethanol extract of basil leaves (Ocimum sanctum L.) as solid soap that met the requirements of SNI 06-3532-1994.
This study used experimental laboratory research methods. Soap made with the addition of basil leaves extract. The basil leaves are extracted using 70% ethanol. The basil leaves extract was made into solid bath soap preparations and was examined by including organoleptics test, pH test, and water content test with a concentration of 0%, 1%, 5% and 10%.

Based on the research carried out the results of organoleptics tests note that more and more extracts are getting thicker the color produced, from white to dark brown, and soap has a distinctive basil aroma. The form of soap that is produced the longer the soap storage will be dense. Soap pH test results 9.6-10.1. Water content test results 9,374-10,734. Based on SNI 06-3532-1994 the water content in solid soap is a maximum of 15%.
The conclusion of the study of basil leaves extract (Ocimum sanctum L.) can be formulated in the form of solid bath soap. It is suggested to formulate the basil leaves extract (Ocimum sanctum L.) in a different formula.
