Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding is breast milk given to infants since birth for 6 (six) months, without adding with other foods or beverages. One of the less developed developing countries is Indonesia's Exclusive Breast Milk. Basic Health Research Results 2013 shows the coverage of Exclusive ASI only reached 30.2%. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that affect the exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of Rambung Health Center Kota Tebing Tinggi in 2016.
This type of research was analytic observational with case control approach. Case population in this research was 106 toddlers and control population was 119 toddlers with control sample 66 toddlers and 66 case sample of toddler using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was done by using chi square test and multiple logistic regression.
The results of this study indicate that there was a significant influence between education in exclusive breastfeeding in infants with p value of 0.001, there was the effect of mother's parity in exclusive breastfeeding in infants with p value 0.012, there was influence of promotion of formula milk in exclusive breastfeeding in infants with p value 0,000, there was influence of mother's health condition in exclusive breastfeeding of infants with p value 0,001, and there is influence of health officer support in exclusive breastfeeding of infants with p value 0,000, the most dominant factor influencing exclusive breastfeeding on infants was variable of formula milk promotion.
The conclusions of this study were education variables, maternal parity variables, formula milk promotion variables, health condition variables, and health officer support variables have an influence in exclusive breastfeeding. It was expected that the health center should encourage and motivate mothers who have babies to exclusively breastfeed, and be given understanding to them about the impact of formula breastfeeding.
