Abstract
The skin is a blanket that covers the surface of the body, has the main function as a protector of various kinds of disorders and stimuli. The skin requires additional protection such as irritant pollution, direct and long-term sunlight exposure that contains UV light. The carambola leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L) contain flavonoids which can protect the skin from free radicals. The purpose of this study was to formulate carambola leaf extract with a certain concentration in gel dosage form.
the research was experimental research. Carambola leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L) are extracted by maceration. The formula is made by varying the 3 concentrations of ethanol extract of carambola leaves: 1%, 3%, and 5% with test parameters: organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, dispersion test, preference test.
The results of organoleptic testing of Handbody Gel, on a formula containing ethanol extract of carambola leaves with a concentration of 1% brownish green, a concentration of 3% light brown, a concentration of 5% dark brown and each formula smelled of oleum rosa mixed with a characteristic odor from the extract crambola leaves and viscous form, has a pH value of 6.2-6.7 with good homogeneity, and dispersive power that does not meet the gel dispersal power requirements.
From this study it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of carambola leaves can be formulated as a preparation of Handbody Gel. It is recommended to do further research to remove chlorophyll and increase the concentration of ethanol extract of starfruit leaves.
