Abstract
Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior (Jack)) is one of the spice plants originating from the Zingiberaceae family which has long been known as kincung, traditionally used for treatment. The chemical content found in kecombrang leaves is flavonoids, saponins and chlorogenic acid. Based on the compound, kecombrang leaves (Etlingera elatior Jack) can be used as hand soap gel. This study aims to formulate the ethanol extract of kecombrang leaves into a hand soap gel form.
This study used an experimental method that used kecombrang leaf extract (Etlingera elatior (Jack)) with a concentration of 20%. The evaluation of hand soap gel form included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, foam height test.
The results showed that the form of kecombrang leaf hand soap gel (Etlingera elatior (Jack)) met the quality parameters of hand soap gel including, organoleptic test (half solid, the color produced dark brown and the characteristic odor of perfume). The homogeneity test has no visible coarse grain on all gel formulas. The Ph test was still in safe intervals, skin pH was 4.5 to 6.5. Foam height test, in all hand soap form formulas produce the desired foam.
The conclusion of this study shows that the ethanol extract of kecombrang leaves (Etlingera elatior (Jack)) can be formulated into a form of hand soap gel. It is suggested for researcher to conduct the study about antibacterial test of hand soap gel form on bacteria in hand and to develop gel formulations ethanol extract of kecombrang leaf leaves (Etlingera elatior (Jack)) into other dosage forms such as lotions, creams and others.
