Abstract
Umbilical cord care aims to prevent infection and accelerate the release of the umbilical cord from the baby's stomach. To determine the effect of umbilical cord care on the time of umbilical cord release using breastmilktopical method at Delima General Hospital. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of umbilical cord care by using breastmilk topical method and dry gauze on the time of removing umbilical cord of neonatal post SC at Delima General Hospital Medan in 2018.
The type of research used was "Pre-Experiment" with a static group comparison study design / "static group comparison group" where 2 groups used in the implementation, namely the umbilical cord care group using breastmilk topical method and umbilical cord care using dry gauze method. The research data obtained by researchers using observation sheets. The sampling technique in this study was Accidental Sampling. The numbers of sample in this study were 30 respondents. The analysis used to determine the relationship of variables was done by using T test sample.
Bivariate analysis found that there was an effect of umbilical cord care using topical methods of breast milk and dry gauze on the time of umbilical cord remove, with a value of p = 0,000. This value was smaller than the value of α = 0.05, so it can be concluded that 0,000 <0,05, so Ho was rejected, and when viewed from the value of t count of 4,430 while t table with the significance level was -2,000 so 4,430> 2,000 (t count> t table) thus Ho was rejected, meaning there was a significant influence between umbilical cord care using topical methods of breast milk and dry gauze with time of umbilical cord remove.
There is an effect of umbilical cord care using topical methods of breast milk and dry gauze on the time of umbilical cord remove in the neonatal post sc at Delima General Hospital Medan in 2018, with a value of p = 0,000 <value α = 0.05. It is suggested for further researchers to be used as inspiration in researching and developing research with broader variables.
