Abstract

Infant and under-five mortality rates due to immunization-preventable diseases still show quite high numbers. According to WHO (World Health Organization) in 2015 infant mortality figures 27 in 1000 live births in Indonesia. The activeness of a mother seeking information about immunization will be the basis for the actions of mothers carrying immunization service children. This study aims to determine the relationship of maternal activeness with the timeliness of providing basic immunization at Kampung Baru Health Center Medan in 2018.
This type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The populations in this study were all mothers who had 9-month-old infants who were given basic infant immunization as many as 46 infants at Kampung Baru Health Center Medan and the sample in this study was the total population. The data obtained by interviewed using questionnaires and observations and analyzed by Chi Square statistical test at α = 0.05
The results showed that maternal activity at Kampung Baru Health Center Medan between active and inactive there was an equal number of 23 people (50.0%), timeliness of basic infant immunization with the most category at Kampung Baru Health Center Medan was not timely at 54.3%, and there were the the relationship of maternal activity with timeliness of immunization administration for infants at Kampung Baru Health Center Medan with chi square test, obtained results of calculation value = 0.003 <0.05.
It is suggesed for mothers who have babies to be more caring and active in maintaining the health of their babies with one of the ways is to actively seek information about basic immunization for babies whether it is about benefits, schedules, side effects, etc. and take the baby to get immunization based on the right schedule.
