Abstract
An IUD (Intrauterine Contraception) is a long-term contraceptive that is very effective for sparing childbirth but the IUD use is small compared to other contraceptives. Based on data from the Health Center and the number of fertile couples there are 229 people using 2 people with IUD, 81 people, 119 people, 5 people and 22 people. The low use of the IUD was thought to be due to a lack of maternal knowledge and husband's support in selecting an IUD. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between husband's knowledge and support with the selection of the IUD method at Berandan Health Center, Babalan Sub District in 2018.
The design of this study was analytic survey with cross sectional approach. This study was conducted in July-September 2018. The population was 229 EFAs and 69 people. The data collection was done by questionnaires. The data were analyzed by univariate, and bivariate using chi-square test at a significance level of 5%.
The results showed that less knowledgeable mothers about the IUD, 37 respondents (53.6%), the husband did not support 42 respondents (60.9%) using the IUD 28 respondents (40.6%). There is a relationship between knowledge and support of husband and IUD method selection, p value 0.018 and p 0.022 smaller than 0.05.
The conclusion of this study shows that Husband's knowledge and support relate to the selection of the IUD method. It is suggested to the health workers to provide regular health education and education to mothers of reproductive age couples so that they are interested in choosing the IUD method and the mother seeks health information about the IUD to increase knowledge so that interest arises to choose the IUD method.
