Abstract
One of the constraints of the low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is because the production of breast milk is not smooth, thus causing newborns to be susceptible to infectious diseases such as diarrhea and allergic diseases. The incompetence of ASI is caused by a lack of family support, low knowledge of mothers regarding correct breastfeeding techniques, and not fully carrying out early breastfeeding initiation (IMD). The aim of the researchers was to determine the influence factors the breastfeeding smoothness on post partum mothers in the Helen Tarigan Clinic in Medan Tuntungan 2018.
This study was analytical survey design with Cross-Sectional approach. The population of this study were post partum mothers as many as 30 respondents. Sampling technique used total sampling. Data analysis was carried out by univariate and bivariate using Chi-Square statistical test.
From the results of univariate analysis, the majority of families did not support a total of 19 respondents (63.3%), the majority did not do IMD in the number of 18 respondents (60.0%), and the majority of knowledge was lacking about 19 respondents (63.3%) . Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square statistical test, on family support variables (p-value 0.009) with OR 10.000 (95% CI), early breastfeeding initiation (p-value 0.024) with OR 24.000 (95% CI), and breastfeeding technique knowledge (p-value 0.001) with OR 24.000 (95% CI). From the results of the most significant statistical test is the knowledge of breastfeeding techniques that is twenty-four times greater associated with the smoothness of breastfeeding in post partum mothers in the Medan Tarigan Helen Tarigan Clinic in 2018.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between family support, early breastfeeding initiation, and knowledge of breastfeeding techniques with breastmilk smoothness. It is expected as input material and add insight to post partum mothers to improve the smoothness of ASI.
