Abstract
The usage type of contraception in Indonesia in 2017 is dominated by the use of non MKJP contraceptives namely injections and pills. This causes many mothers of fertile age couples to use contraceptives that are not in accordance with the phase of maternal reproductive age. The purpose of this study was to determine the related factors to the contraceptives selection in women of fertile age couple at Working Area of Langsa Baro Health Center, Langsa in 2018.
The type of this research is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach using primary data, namely questionnaires and secondary data. The population in this study was 145 women of fertile age couple with a total sample of 59 mothers who were determined using the Random Sampling method. Analysis uses univarate and bivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis was done by using Chi Square Test.
Chi square test results showed that the independent variables related to the selection of contraceptives were knowledge with values (p = 0.001 <0.05), education (p = 0.001 <0.05), age (p = 0.001 <0.05), and economics (p = 0.001 <0.05)
The conclusion of this study shows that knowledge and age factors have a relationship, with the selection of contraceptive devices while education and economics do not have a relationship with the selection of contraceptives in women of fertile age couple at Langsa Baro Health Center, Langsa in 2018. It is suggested to use this study as an input for health workers to participate and guiding mother in fulfilling the need for the implementation of contraception through empowering the community with the middle to lower economy in order to be able to use this type of contraception according to the needs of the reproductive phase.
