Abstract

According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) data in 2013 in the United States the percentage of breastfeeding women who experienced ASI Dam reached an average of 87.05% or as many as 8242 postpartum mothers from 12,765 people, in 2014 mothers who experienced breastmilk inhibition were 7198 people of 10,764 people and in 2015 there were 6543 mothers who experienced ASI dams out of 9,862 people. This study aims to determine the relationship of breast care with the smoothness of breastfeeding in post partum mothers at Estomihi General Hospital Medan in 2018.
The research design was an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were post partum maternal who gave birth at Estomihi General Hospital in 2018 totaling 30 respondents (Accidental sampling). The data used is primary data and secondary data. The instruments used were checklist and questionnaire with 16 questions. Data were analyzed by applying Chi-square analysis test.
From the results of the study 30 respondents, more did not do breast care well as many as 17 people (56.7%), both as many as 13 people 43.3 (%). Statistical test results using Chi-Square get p-value 0.002 <0.05.
The results showed that there was a relationship between breast care and smoothness of breast milk at the mother of Post Partum in Estomihi General Hospital in Medan City. It is suggested to Estomihi General Hospital to provide counseling and services especially regarding good breast care methods and breastfeeding problems such as abrasions, so that the performance of services provided by health workers can be of high quality breastfeeding techniques correctly.
