Abstract
Anemia is a condition of a decrease in the number of red blood cells or a decrease in the concentration of hemoglobin in the blood circulation. Anemia occurs when the red blood cell count is reduced. Examination of hemoglobin levels is done to find out whether someone is anemic or not. This study aims to determine the relationship between iron consumption levels and menstrual patterns with anemia in Teenage Girls at SMA Negeri 1 Sibolangit.
The design of this study used an observational analysis design, with analytic cross sectional approach, research data obtained through hemoglobin checking and observation sheets. The study population was 48 people. The sampling technique of this study used Total Sampling. The numbers of samples in this study were 48 respondents. The bivariate analysis used was Chi-square with statistical calculation p value (0.05). If the calculation results showed the value of p <p value (0.05) then it was said (Ho) was rejected and Ha was accepted, meaning that there was a relationship between the level of iron consumption and menstrual patterns with anemia in teenage girls.
There is a relationship between the level of iron consumption and menstrual patterns with anemia in teenage girls at SMA Negeri 1 Sibolangit in 2018, with a value of p = 0,000 <p value = 0.05.
It is suggested to the schools to keep monitoring the development of adolescent health with school health efforts unit so that it will reduce the prevalence of anemia in the school environment.
