Abstract

Stimulation is an activity to stimulate the basic abilities of children aged 0-6 years so that children grow and develop optimally. According to Indonesia's health profile in 2015, in Indonesia there were 19,971,366 where maounted 27% of toddlers had a growth disorder, around 4-5% of children under five experienced speech and language disorders. Based on the data obtained by researchers on August 2018 in PAUD Cempaka Mas Medan there were 3 PAUD students who still spoke less clearly at age (36-48 months). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of maternal knowledge with speech and language stimulation on todlers aged 36-48 months in PAUD Cempaka Mas Medan in 2018.
The design of this study was analytical with a cross sectional approach. The population was in the study of all mothers who had children aged 36-48 months. The sampling technique used a total population of 36 mothers, this study used univariate and bivariate data analysis.
Based on the results of the chi-square test between the knowledge of the mother with speech and language stimulation obtained significant values p = 0.002 < 0.05, meaning that there is a mother's knowledge relationship with speech and language stimulation on todlers aged 36-48 months in PAUD Cempaka Mas Medan in 2018.
The conclusion of this study is the relationship of maternal knowledge with speech and language stimulation in children aged 36-48 months in PAUD Cempaka Mas Medan in 2018. It is recommended for parents to spend more time playing with children, reading story books and always inviting children to talk, to teachers also to further increase knowledge about stimulation and improve educational skills, by attending seminars on the importance of early childhood education.
