Abstract
Background; Today many girls experience puberty at an early age. The average incidence of menarche in various countries since the 20th century has undergone a change and leads to a faster age of menarche. Objectives;The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of junk food consumption and the relationship of consumption of junk food with menarche in grade VII students at SMP N 18 Medan in 2018. Method; This type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 90 people with a total population. Techniques and methods for collecting data with primary data through a checklist distributed to all respondents. Bivariate analysis data using Chi-Square test. Results; The results of the study of respondents who consumed junk food ideal age menarche as many as 25 respondents (27.8%) and fast menarche as many as 42 respondents 46.7%) while those who did not consume junk food and experienced slow menarche by 1 respondent (1.1%). There is a relationship between consumption of junk food with menarche in female teenage girls in SMP N 18 Medan in 2018. The chi-square analysis results revealed that the probability value (0.023) <sig_α = 0.05.. Conclusion; It is expected that the results of this study can add to the insight of respondents to pay more attention to their actions in consuming junk food and further increase their knowledge about the dangers of junk food, so that students can choose intelligently which foods are suitable for consumption then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted
