Abstract
An initial survey conducted in Silih Nara Sub-district found 30 industrial sites. In Genting Gerbang Village there are 4 brick industries, each with 150 workers. The results of interviews with 15 people from each of these industries, found 10 people experiencing ARI that has been examined by the local health center. The Health Center data obtained 210 cases of ARI in 2018 and 3 of them still experience its symptoms, because workers do not use personal protective equipment while working and during the brick burning process. Diseases experienced by workers are cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, sinus infections in the nasal cavity and inflammation of the trachea. This study aimed to determine the risk factors associated with respiratory symptoms in brick-making workers at Genting Gerbang, Central Aceh Regency. This is an analytical survey research with cross sectional design. The population was all brick workers in Genting Gerbang Village amount 60 workers, all of whom were taken as samples (total population). Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square test. Chi-square test results indicate that the probability value of each variable, among others, knowledge p = .001, attitude p = 0.000, action p = .006 and protective equipment p = .006. The conclusion shows that there is a relationship of knowledge, attitudes, actions and personal protective equipment with respiratory symptoms in brick-making workers. It is suggested that workers increase their awareness of their health by using personal protective equipment while working to avoid health problems.
