Abstract

Rosemary is one of the scents whose oils are used to accelerate blood circulation, reduce cholesterol, relax muscles, rheumatism, eliminate dandruff, hair loss, help overcome dry skin, relieve pain. This research was conducted to make and find out the stability of aromatherapy massage cream using rosemary essential oil with milk cream base.
The massage cream formulation was made into 3 formulas using rosemary essential oil of 0.5 g for each cream formulation, and 1 blank formula without using rosemary essential oil. The four formulas namely, F0 is a blank formula without using rosemary essential oil with an ar phase of 66.4% and an oil phase of 33.6%, F1 with a water phase and an oil phase of 66.8% and 33.2%, F2 with water and oil phase of 65.2% and 34.8%, F3 with water and oil phase ratio of 64.4% and 35.6%. Cream stability was tested which included homogeneity test, stability test, spreadability test, pH test, stickiness test, preference test and irritation test.
The results obtained in testing physical properties show that F3 is the formulation that has the smallest deviation in some of the tests carried out, while for the F1 preferred test is the most preferred formulation.
The conclusion of this research is rosemary essential oil (Rosemarinus Officinalis L.) can be formulated into an aromatherapy massage cream. The difference between the oil phase and the water phase has an influence on the physical properties of the preparation, which includes the dispersion and adhesion of the preparation.
