Abstract

Pulmonary TB bacteria can infect various parts of the body and prefer body parts with high oxygen levels. The lungs are the main predilection for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) germs. Pulmonary TB is an infectious disease which is a problem for people in Kuala Sub District. In 2013 and 2014 there were 53 and 77 people with pulmonary TB, in 2015 there were 75 people and in 2016 there were 52 people. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the compliance of pulmonary TB in consuming drugs with recovery rate at working area of Kuala Health Center, Langkat District.
The design of this study is quantitative research design with a cross sectional approach. The populations in this study were all patients with pulmonary TB who had participated in the Pulmonary TB treatment program for 6 months at Working Area of Kuala Health Center of Langkat District as many as 52 people. The sample used the total population. The data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis and tested by using chi square test.
The results of the study showed that the majority of the compliance of pulmonary TB patients were 49 people (94.2%), disobedient as many as 3 people (5.8%) and the majority of patients recovered as many as 47 people (90.4%), not cured as many as 5 people (9 , 6%). The results of the chi square test showed that the p-value = 0,000 <0,05.
The conclusion in this study shows that there is a relationship between the compliance in consuming pulmonary TB drugs with recovery rate. It is suggested to the Health Office together with the Management of the Community Health Center to increase the provision of information about pulmonary TB treatment to patients and families of patients through counseling activities or home visits.
