Abstract

Antibiotics are the drugs most widely used in infections caused by bacteria where antibiotics are the oral route for the first choice in infection therapy. Various studies have found that about 40-62% of antibiotics are used incorrectly, among other things for diseases that actually do not require antibiotics. The problem that often occurs is the lack of outpatient knowledge about the proper use of antibiotics.
This research was conducted to determine the level of outpatient knowledge about the use of antibiotics, using a cross sectional descriptive method. Data was taken secondary through filling out the questionnaire. A total of 100 outpatients in H. Abdul Manan Simatupang Regional General Hospital were selected as volunteers by accidental sampling method. Data were processed using Statistical Product and Servicer Solution (SPSS) applications with chi-square test.
The results obtained from 100 respondents, amount 43% of respondents have a low level of knowledge, 46% of respondents have a sufficient level of knowledge and 11% of respondents have a high level of knowledge. There was a relationship between age (p-value .048 <.05), last education (p-value .002 <.05) and occupation (p-value .016 <.05) with the level of knowledge in the use of antibiotics but there was no relationship with someone's gender (p-value .163> .05).
The conclusion shows that the level of knowledge of outpatients in H. Abdul Manan Simatupang Regional General Hospital in the range of 2019 is quite sufficient at 46%.
