Abstract

Introduction: Lip color is a cosmetic form used to color the lips with an artistic touch so as to enhance aesthetics in facial makeup. Lip color is often known as lipstick in the form of crayons and lip cream in the form of cream. The application of color is very important to improve the quality of lip cream. One of the plants that can be used as a natural dye is beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.). Method: This study is an experimental study of lip cream formulations using beetroot juice 15%, 20%, and 25%. Objective: The purpose of this study was to make lip cream form using natural dyes. Natural dyes contained in beetroot are betalain or betacyanin (purplish red) and betaxanthin (yellow). Results: the results showed that the form of lip cream with beetroot extract concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 25% produced a lip cream that has a texture, color, aroma and has a good smearing power, spread ability, and adhesion. The pH of the form ranges from 5,3 to 6,3 and did not cause irritation to the skin. Conclusion: of this study shows that beetroot juice (Beta vulgaris L.) can be formulated in lip cream form and can affect discoloration of the form. The higher the concentration of extract used, the darker the colorpigment in the form.
