Abstract
Matoa is one of the plants that can be used for traditional medicine with the scientific name Pometia pinnata J. R & G. forst. Until now, what is famous for the people of this plant is the fruit. In addition to its taste, matoa plants have other characteristics that deserve to be developed, namely in the fields of pharmacy, cosmetics and food. Objective :This research was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of matoa meat fruit (Pometia Pinnata J. R & G forst) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. As a comparative antibacterial, Amoxicillin and DMSO are used as negative controls.Method: Matoa seed samples were extracted using 70% ethanol for 5 days with occasional stirring, then the filtrate was thickened with a vacuum rotary evaporator solvent. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by the diffusion method using disk paper with various concentrations of 25%, 20%, 15%, 10% and 5% based on the diameter of inhibition zone or the clear area formed around the disc paper. Inhibition zones were used using calipers and triplo. Result:Inhibition zone diameter produced in the ethanol extract of matoa fruit flesh against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with concentrations of 5% respectively 7.90 mm and 7.16 mm, while at a concentration of 25% respectively 10. 83 mm and 10.86 mm. Conclusion :the antibacterial activity test of ethanol extract of matoa fruit using disc diffusion showed that the extract actively inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.
