Daun sirih merupakan salah satu tanaman dari famili piperaceae, Masyarakat Indonesia mengenal daun sirih sebagai bahan untuk menyirih dengan keyakinan bahwa daun sirih dapat menguatkan gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah sediaan pasta gigi ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau memiliki aktivitas terhadap daya hambat bakteri Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus dan Staphylococcus aureus.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental yaitu ekstrak diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode maserasi selanjutnya dibuat sediaan pasta gigi ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau dengan konsentrasi 5%, 10% dan 15%, kemudian sediaan pasta gigi ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau (Piper betle L.) dievaluasi dengan uji organoleptis, homogenitas, uji pH, uji daya sebar, uji tinggi busa dan uji aktivitas antibakteri.
Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri pasta gigi ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau konsentrasi 5% 10% dan 15% terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans dengan zona hambat 18,2 mm, 18,4 mm dan 18,5 mm. Bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus memiliki zona hambat 19,8 mm, 19,9 mm dan 20,2 mm dan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus memiliki zona hambat sebesar 17,4 mm, 17,4 mm dan 17,5 mm.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pasta gigi ekstrak etanol daun sirih hijau dengan konsentrasi 5% 10% dan 15% mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus dan Staphylococcus aureus.

Betel leaf is one of the plants of the family Piperaceae. Indonesian people recognize betel leaf as an ingredient for betel with the belief that betel leaves can strengthen teeth. This study aims to determine whether the ethanol extract of green betel leaf has activity against the inhibitory properties of the bacteria Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Staphylococcus aureus.
This research was an experimental study in which extracts obtained using maceration method then made into a green betel leaf ethanol extract with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%, then a toothpaste dosage formulation of green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.) was evaluated with organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH test, dispersion test, foam height test and antibacterial activity test.
Antibacterial activity test results of toothpaste dosage form of green betel leaf ethanol extract with concentration of 5% 10% and 15% against Streptococcus mutans bacteria with inhibition zones of 18.2mm, 18.4mm and 18.5mm. Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria have inhibition zones of 19.8mm, 19.9mm and 20.2mm and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria have inhibition zones of 17.4mm, 17.4mm and 17.5mm.
Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of green betel leaf with a concentration of 5% 10% and 15% can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Staphylococcus aureus.
