Abstract

White turmeric is a natural ingredient that contains the active compound essential oil consisting of alpha beta turmerone which causes a distinctive odor in turmeric. Honey is a natural liquid that generally has a sweet taste produced by honey bees from plant flower extracts (flora nectar) or other parts of plants (extra flora nectar) or insect excretion.
This research uses an experimental method by making a gel mask formulation consisting of components of white turmeric, honey, methyl paraben, glycerin, Na.CMC, Triethanolamine, Aquadest, and 70% ethanol with a concentration of 1%, 3%, 5%. The making ethanol extract of white turmeric rhizome was by maceration. Tests for gel mask dosage form made include, homogeneity test, pH test, test time of drying dosage form, dispersion test, organoleptic test, and irritation test.
Gel mask dosage formulation using honey turmeric white rhizome extract as an active ingredient was quite stable, pH ranges from 6.8 to 7.5 thus it is safe to use organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, irritation test for volunteer skin, spread power test, time test wait for it to dry.
The conclusion shows that honey and turmeric white rhizome extract combination can be used as an additional active ingredient in gel mask dosage form, the higher the ratio of adding white turmeric rhizome extract to honey, the resulting pH is lower and obtains the pH of dosage form that meet the criteria of a good gel mask and the dosage form do not experience changes in shape, color, and aroma.
