Abstract
Honey as a natural ingredient can be used as a moisturizer on skin because of humectant, emollient and antioxidant properties. Yam contains antioxidants (vitamin C), flavonoids and saponins that can prevent skin damage by free radicals. The combination of yam and honey can be varied in gel dosage forms. Gel form are very popular because the water content is quite large, so it is comfortable and feels cold to the skin and the release of the medicine is good. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of honey concentrations in gel on skin moisture.
This study was an experimental research that compares the effect of differences in honey concentrations of 4%, 5% and 6% with the dependent variable namely the value of skin moisture and organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, spreadability and the presence or absence of irritating effect on the skin
Based on yam and honey examination in gel form, organoleptic tests obtained were observed, namely shape, colour and odour obtained by stable gel preparations. There were differences in colour in the formula, due to differences in the addition of honey concentrations. Homogeneity, pH and spreadability were obtained by stable gel preparations based on the requirements. The irritation test for all treatments for 3 days did not show any irritation. Moisture test results using a skin analyzer obtained gel preparations provide a moisturizing effect on the skin.
Evaluation of yam and honey starch gel preparations namely organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dispersal and moisturizing effects meet the requirements and are safe to use on skin.
