Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children 's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) of 136.7 million babies born worldwide and only 32.6% were exclusively breastfed in the first 6 months. Breastfeeding for 6 months was associated with a decrease in diarrhea (53.0%) and ARI (27.0%). While in developing countries only 39% of mothers who provide exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between mother's knowledge and attitudes with exclusive breastfeeding in Kel.Alur Dua Baru, Kec. Mei Lepan, District of Langkat 2018.
The design of this study uses a survey method using a cross sectional design approach with a population of all mothers who have infants aged 7-12 months as many as 71 people. The sample in this study used a total population technique of 71 respondents.
The results of the study showed that maternal knowledge was lacking as many as 42 (59.2%) respondents. The mother's attitude is still classified as negative, namely 33 (46.5%) respondents. Based on statistics using chi-square test obtained knowledge p-value = 0.011 <α = 0.05 and attitude p-value = 0.032 <α = 0.05.
The conclusion in this study is that there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers with exclusive breastfeeding in Kel.Alur Dua Baru, Kec. Mei Lepan, Regency of Langkat in 2018. Suggestions for research sites to further improve health promotion regarding the importance of giving exclusive breastfeeding to infants and increase knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding.
