Abstract

Cosmetic products become part of the daily lives of women, along with the lifestyle back to nature, the natural dyes began to be an option to avoid the use of harmful synthetic dyes. In a previous study, onions Dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia (L) Merr) is used as a dye lipstick. In addition, the red color can also be used as a colouring agent for cosmetics, which are derived from quinone group compounds. Objective: This study aims to formulate cheek dyes using Dayak onion extract (Eleutherine palmifolia (L) Merr) with 45%, 50% and 55% concentrations. Method: In this study Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia (L) Merr) was extracted by maceration using 96% solvent. Then it is formulated into a gel form and tested on organoleptic tests, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity, irritation and preferences. Result: The results of the cheek dye gel from Dayak onion extract (Eleutherine palmifolia (L) Merr) showed organoleptic results of the preparations were red, semi-solid texture and had the smell of rose, pH preparations F1:6.0, F2:6.2 and F3: 6.2, homogeneity of F1, F2 and F3 produces homogeneous preparations, spreadability F1:7.0 cm, F2:6.2 and F3: 5.6 and viscosity F1:2,340, F2:2,652, F3:2,710. these results showed that correspond to the gel preparation parameters. And the irritation test showed negative results. Conclusion: The the conclusion from this study that extracts of Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia (L) Merr) can be formulated as cheek coloring in gel preparations with concentrations of 45%, 50% and 55% and does not cause irritation.
