Abstract

Feeding problem in children is the forerunner to developmental disorders of children. Some parents are worried and looking for alternative solutions by giving appetite enhancing supplements to children. The cause of difficulty eating in children is actually very varied. But the most often is due to improper way of feeding, the composition of food that does not vary, and the texture is not in accordance with the wishes of children.
This study was a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional approach, which analyzes parents' perceptions about the benefits of appetite supplements in elementary school age children. This research was conducted in Ujoeng KruengVillage. The study was conducted in June-July 2019. The study population was 53 people. The sample were taken by using Total Sampling technique. Data were analyzed univariately presented in the frequency distribution table and bivariate analysis in a cross table using the Chi-Square test (p=0.000 p<.05).
Based on the results of the study showed that parents who had good perceptions to increase appetite supplements were good (52.8%) and not good (47.2%). Respondents are of the opinion that supplements are beneficial for children and are satisfied with the benefits of supplements, most respondents stated that there were no complaints experienced by children while taking supplements.
In overcoming the feeding problm, parents serve daily food according to the age of the child's needs by providing supplemental appetite as a food companion. Before taking supplements, you should pay attention to the child's body condition, child's age, body weight, and the required dose.
