Abstract
Shampoo is a cleansing agent suitable for washing hair, removing impurities from the hair and scalp, making hair easy to style and look healthy. Kecombrang flower (Etlingera elatior) is a type of spice plant native to Indonesia which is included in the Zingiberaceae family which contains flavonoid compounds, saponins, tannins and terpenoids. Objectives; The purpose of this study was conducted to determine the formulation of kecombrang flower ethanol extract as a shampoo preparation. Method; This research method used an experimental method by extracting the kecombrang flower (Etlingera elatior) by maceration which then proceed to the formulation of the kecombrang flower ethanol extract shampoo with a concentration of 4%, 5%, 6%. Tests on preparations include organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, irritation, and foam height tests. Result; The results of the organoleptic test showed brown preparations, typical of kecombrang flowers and semi-solid forms. Homogeneity test showed that all shampoo preparations are homogeneous. The pH test showed a blank pH of 6.9, F1=6.2, F2=5.8 and F3=5.6. The irritation test showed that the shampoo preparation had a negative result, ie there was no irritation in the volunteers. The foam height test showed that the final foam height in the blanks shampoo was 55 mm, F1=65 mm, F2=80 mm, and F3=82 mm. Conclusion; The conclusion from the results obtained that the ethanol extract of kecombrang flowers (Etlingera elatior) can be formulated as a shampoo preparation. It is recommended that furthure researchers to conduct antibacterial testing of the kecombrang flower (Etlingera elatior) ethanol extract shampoo.
